Facial Toner - Why do I need a tonic?
Our tap water contains lime. The lime in the water remains as a residue like a thin film on our skin. A tonic removes lime residues, neutralises the skin's pH value and moisturises the skin. This makes the skin more receptive. Subsequent care products such as serums, day or night care and also masks are better absorbed and can work deeper in the lower layers of the skin.
If you use a lot of make-up, you may have noticed that some dirt is still stuck in the cotton pad when you cleanse your skin with tonic in the evening. For the removal of the last traces of dirt and make-up, post-cleansing is therefore particularly important.
Another plus: the subsequent care can be applied more easily to the moistened skin and you need much less product. The favourite cream pot or the precious serum lasts much longer.
Which tonic suits me?
Blemished, oily and combination skin: Here, it is better to use products that have an antibacterial effect and are anti-inflammatory at the same time. Facial tonics with witch hazel or special enzymes are excellent.
Dry, impure skin: A very special skin type! Facial toners without alcohol are virtually mandatory here. Antibacterial facial toners without alcohol and soothing facial toners or special tonics with microsilver are suitable.
Dry, dehydrated skin: Give your dry skin something to drink. Limescale residues in tap water further dry out the skin. A suitable moisturising facial toner removes all residues and additionally moisturises the skin.
Normal skin: Wonderful! To keep it that way, the tonic should not have a high alcohol content, but rather be moisturising to maintain this skin condition and not dry out the skin.

How do I apply the tonic?
There are two ways:
1. with a cotton pad: Simply moisten a cotton pad with tonic and use it to cleanse the face, neck and décolleté. This is particularly useful for impure skin for the sake of hygiene or in the evening to remove the last traces of make-up.
2. with the hands: Put a little tonic on the palm of your hand and then use both hands to pattern, i.e. gently pat, the tonic onto your face. This stimulates the blood circulation of the skin and tired skin becomes lively. A clear advantage in the morning. Don't forget the neck and décolleté. Positive side effect - you save on cotton pads!
Facial toner - more than just water
In addition to this essential main ingredient, cosmetic toners also have many important and caring secondary components. If a tonic is to degrease and disinfect, it contains between 20 and 50 percent of the monohydric alcohols ethanol or isopropanol. Isopropanol has a degreasing and disinfecting effect and is therefore used for acne treatments and oily "problem skin".
Alum, zinc stearate, Hamamelis extracts or organic acids such as lactic or citric acid dehydrate the skin keratin and tighten the pores. This makes the skin more resistant to harmful environmental influences.
The addition of menthol and camphor provides a refreshing effect and improved blood circulation in the capillaries.
Anti-inflammatory components such as Bisabolol, extracts of camomile or lime blossom extract have a calming and anti-inflammatory effect. Microsilver prevents infections of small wounds that can occur with impurities. The formation of new pustules is prevented.
Polyhydric alcohols such as glycerine and sorbitol have a hygroscopic effect, i.e. they bind water. The skin is moisturised and the epidermal layers are smoothed.
So, every facial toner contains not only valuable ingredients, but also a high level of know-how, research and cosmetic knowledge.
